Currently, UFS has campuses in the municipalities of São Cristóvão, Aracaju, Laranjeiras, Itabaiana and Lagarto, offering annual enrollment for 5.500 incoming freshmen with 106 course options.

As for graduate studies, UFS offers 46 courses, including 9 PhD programs, 37 Master's degree programs and 3 professionalizing Master's degree courses.
Similar to other public higher education institutions in Brazil, UFS has expanded geographically over the last eight years, induced by Federal educational public policies, with the objective of expanding educational access throughout the state. More recently, Federal policies with the aim of internationalizing Brazilian universities has begun, which involves programs and projects that seek to enable greater contact between Brazilian students and foreign universities, as well as the reception of foreign students in our universities. We believe that the interchange of students plays an important role not only when it comes to spreading knowledge, but also in terms of widening comprehension and understanding among diverse cultures. These two movements, geographic expansion and internationalization, are considered fundamental actions to the fulfillment of the basic purposes of UFS, that being to train professionals, educate citizens, and to aid in the creation, diffusion and conservation of knowledge in an interactive way with local communities, thus strengthening democracy and improving the quality of life of the population.
